This weeks learning:
Math- We are working on number combinations up to the sum of 10. Today was making combinations of 5 and how many ways can you add to make 5. We want students to understand vertical addition and horizontal addition. In our problem solving this week we are learning to show our math thinking in multiple ways (ie. numberline, count on, count all, words, and number sentences.) Please continue to work with your student on counting on a number line and using a 120s chart. Make sure you look for patterns. Practicing counting on from any given number.
Reading- We are learning about fiction and nonfiction books. We have begun introducing main idea and supporting details. Also, continue practicing reading and identifying story elements.
Phonics- This week we are working on short I words. These are basic cvc words. Practice tapping out words.
Science- This week is a big STEM week for us! We are excited because we have been told that we can create a first grade garden to add beauty to our school! This week we are collecting data (temperature, sunlight, and rain) using weather instruments to try and figure out the best location for our first grade garden.
Social Studies- This week is our big stem focus so we will pick up with SS next week.
