Learnings this week:
Math- Place Value Review (Check out HW packets this week for things we have been doing in class.) Check out the number bonds activity. Students must understand what numbers a number is made of----Expanded Form. 13 is made up of 10 and 3. So if I wanted to add 13+16:
*Start with breaking down the number 13- 10 and 3
*Take the 16 and add the group of 10=26
* Now take the 26 and add the left over 3 from the ones place in the number 13.
Writing- We are learning the 5 parts of a letter. (Date, Greeting, Body, Closing, and Signature)
How do you write a letter of opinion and how can you make sure you are being respectful and convince/persuade your reader?
Phonics- Red Words this week: wanted, spring, year, near, called
This week we are continue syllable division to help students solve challenging words in their reading. Right now we have done VCCV and VCV rules.
Example:
Jumbo- VCCV- Break in between the CC and You have a closed syllable on the left and an open on the right- Jum/bo
Cabin- VCV- Break after the b. The first syllable is closed and the second syllable has a short vowel and is closed. Cab/in
Reading- How do I identify who is telling the story? What are clues to help me decide first person or third person? How do I identify who is telling the story in different parts of a text? What is dialogue?
Science- Learning about animals and how to group them into categories. What are some categories you could group animals into? How many kinds of animals are there?
Social Studies- Still learning about the Voyage of Discovery and our heroes (Lewis, Clark, and Sacagawea). This Friday we will have a speaker coming to school to be Sacagawea to help end our unit!
