Math: How can I change the unknown in order to add to and / take away from to solve word problems? How do I use a strategy to prove my answers? What is the commutative property? What are related facts and what is a fact family?

The Related Fact is the reverse of a problem in order to check an answer.

Ex. 9-5=4

4+5=9

Writing: Informative writing is our focus this 9 weeks. Here are our essential questions. How can I write to teach my reader? How can I add details to give my reader more information? How can I add pictures to give my readers more information? Think about topics they know a lot about. With the facts we are teaching students how to include a twin sentence that helps support the fact. Ex. Shark babies are called pups. Some pups grow inside their mothers, but others hatch from eggs.

Phonics: What is the floss rule?

Red Words for the week: when, than, that, into, here

Reading: What are the supporting details that support the main idea in a non-fiction text?

Science: What is sound? How is sound developed? What are vibrations? What do sound waves do?

Social Studies: Who was Benjamin Franklin? How does he still influence our lives today? What were his contributions? How were times different back then and are there similarities now?
