Week for Jan 27 - 31

Math: This week, we will be working on adding 1-digit numbers to 2-digit numbers. Students should have the background of understanding the tens place and the ones place. They should also understand that a group of ten ones makes a new group of tens. We will be working on this through the use of manipulatives, drawings, and expanded notation.

Writing: We will be continuing with our opinion writing unit. Students will finish up using their collections to help state their opinion and give reasons. We will also be looking at other things that we like and don't like to help us write a complete opinion writing. Students should have an opening that clearly states their opinion, give reasons for their opinion (supported with examples) and close by restating their opinion in another way.

Phonics: We will continue working on syllable division with 2 closed syllables. Students will be able to "code" 2 syllable words that follow the pattern of VCCV (vowel, consonant, consonant, vowel).

Red Words: Mr., people, again, our, wait

Language Arts: Beginning to look at dialogue in a story which will lead in to identifying who is telling the story at various points in a text.

Science: Some animals have the unique ability to camouflage. We will be looking at some of these animals and gain an understanding of what purpose camouflage serves.

SS: Lewis and Clark and Sacagawea - We are beginning to look at their voyage and what it took for them to discover the Pacific Ocean.
