Week of February 3-7

Math: We will continue to work with strategies that help us add 2 digit numbers together. Students have been practicing drawing quick tens as well as a strategy called decomposing. We will be practicing these skills using word problems this week.

Writing: This week we will be using what we have learned about writing opinions to start writing reviews to persuade their reader into thinking what they believe. Opinion writers want to hook their readers, state what they think or believe and give lots of reasons and examples to support their way of thinking.

Phonics: We will be introducing the skill y as a vowel

Red Words: ready, goes, every, many, really

Reading skill: We will continue to discuss how dialogue is used in fiction stories to help us understand characters. We can also use dialogue to help determine who is telling the story. This is a great skill to practice as you are doing your nightly reading at home.

Science: Our animal focus this week will be how different types of animals use their shelter/habitat to stay safe. We will be looking at groundhogs, bears, raccoons, and squirrels.

Social Studies: We will continue our study of Lewis and Clark and their voyage of discovery. We will discuss and explore what they found on their journey, what obstacles they overcame and how they navigated the new land.
